I think I need an intervention...

I've always known I have an addictive personality, but I am currently a little out of control. I mean here it is past midnight and I've been reading so many different blogs my eyes are crossing. A normal person would take that as a sign to go to bed, right?! Not me!

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am new to the whole blogging scene...so give some advice to a newbie...does the obsession lessen at least a little? I find myself checking in multiple times a day to see if I have new comments or if one of the blogs that I read daily (okay, multiple times daily) has a new post (remember I do work full time and I am supposed to be doing my job!!). And now the newest thing is linking to new blogs from other blogs (and they tell one friend, and they tell one friend...you get the picture). I have even taken to bring my work laptop home every night so I can be more comfortable with my new obsession.

An embarrassing admission regarding my addiction: I had to take off that fidget (or whatever it's called) thing that tracks who's on your blog because it had me coming back and forth so many times, I was officially stalking myself. (By the way Tressa, your fidget thingy shows me doing the same thing to you; one reason to be glad you're 3,000 miles away!)

To be clear, this is not a cry for help, because I am actually enjoying myself...I just need to learn moderation...Right?!

You've got to subscribe to Bloglines. You input all your blogs that you read and then you go to the bloglines site and it tells you who has new entries, you can even read them on the bloglines site (that's how I do it.) Then if you are feeling witty you just go to the blog link to leave comments or you can just read on bloglines and be silent.
And no, the obsession doesn't lessen, you just keep adding blogs. I think I am up to 45 now... and going on vacation for two weeks. How am I going to keep up?
You can also add a counter to your blog so you can see how many visitors you get.
And then of course you'll be playing around with your header and font colors and.. yah, the obsession never stops!

Oh yeah, blogging is addictive! Hubby made a comment last night about how every time he turns around, I'm back on the computer! And he had the nerve to say I didn't need to blog every day! (I know, I can't believe I'm still married to the man after that remark). I tried to explain that little feeling of euphoria I get when I see there is a new comment... he just looked at me like I was weird or something!

I agree with Andrea. I personally use Google Reader, but it's all the same. It only shows you the blogs that you are tracking that have new entries. Now, it doesn't stop me from checking my reader 150 times a day, but baby steps. I currently track 65 sites right now, so look, your obsession has a long way to go yet! :-) Ok, that probably wasn't helpful. It did wane (just a tiny bit) for me after I had been doing this for about 2 months, but now I've found my groove and can keep up with it ok. Until I have weeks like this one and my reader gets out of control. All of this to say, you're NORMAL. Enjoy!

I wrote a similar post in the beginning of my adventure in blogging. You'll get settled in.

I use Google Reader too... and just like many of the above, I also delete my own visits.

Oh yeah - my Google Reader stays open all day too - just so I don't miss anything.

Sucks to not have internet service for a week - and to not have an opportunity to check blogs or write myself. I feel almost naked!

Are you sure we're not twins or something? I have such an addictive personality. I suppose there could be worse things that I wanted to spend my time doing. Or my money.

But I love my google reader. Then I only need to stalk when necessary :-)

I am way too obsessed with my own stats. I think I have 5 different things on my site.

Sorry my new friend but it doesn't get any better! :-) I finally deleted my stat counter because I couldn't stop myself from checking it a million times a day..You do get in a groove though after awhile. It's so worth it. I love all my new blog friends!
