I'm tired...

I'm tired.
I'm cranky.
I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open.
I'm having a hard time spelling correctly.

I'm usually a night person, but since I've been working out and exercising regularly, my endurance for staying up into the wee hours has been depleted.  There is only one thing stopping me from doing that consistently.  If you listen carefully, you can hear it:

bounce
bounce
bounce
bounce
bounce

That would be The Boy...my night owl.  HOURS after the girls are asleep, that boy is up, bouncing, talking, singing....I guess it is better than screaming.  Typically he is at this until 11:30 - 12:00 at night!!!

Once in a great while, hubby will sacrifice his sleep so I can get to bed at a decent hour, however, this is really hard on him because he starts work a good 2 hours earlier than I do and being Mr. compulsive on-time guy, that means he's there at least 45 min - 1 hour early...But I digress.  Tonight, I gave the boy Benadryl...it's not what you think...I'm not drugging my 2 1/2 year old.  He's having a really difficult time with his allergies (runny nose, coughing, itching) so I dosed him with a tinge of hope that the Benadryl side effect of sleepiness would kick in...NOPE....not working.

Next solution:

Talking to the babysitter about cutting down the daytime nap hours.

Sweet Dreams....grab 'em if you've got them!!

you could sneak some liquid melotonin (available at Whole Foods ) into his nighttime drink. No harm if it doesn't work, and if does? Yippee!

You could have him run laps around the block while you follow him in your car each evening...

When my little one was "chirping" until 9 & 10 pm, we knew we had to cut out the afternoon naps. Good luck - I feel your pain!

I can't believe he still naps... I would tell her to stop letting him sleep during the day & lots of out side play in the afternoon... :)

(Dane used to get kicked out of daycare for NOT sleeping...EVER...)

We're dealing with sleep issues at the other end of the day: morning. My darling daughter is up at the crack of 5am. For this night owl, that is pure torture. I'm not cutting out her naps for anything, though. I need those hours during the day or I'd completely lose it.

I think the nap time is probaby the reason he is not tired that late at night...I feel for you...My grandson is a night owl!

Oh Boy! I have noticed sometimes Benadryl does the exact opposite and keeps them up! My girls inherited my allergies UGH!
Hope you get some rest soon!

Benadryl has the opposite effect on my girls too. So disappointing, especially when they're sick because you know they need the rest.

My (just turned 3 yr old) gave up naps at 2.5 and it AMAZES me that she can still be hitting all cylinders at 10pm. ??? I wish I had that kind of energy.

BTW, kudos on the regular exercising!! You go girl!

So sorry....I know how you feel. Is it a boy thing?

I have to give Z Benadryl a lot because of allergies....its what his doctor told me to give him. But I give it to him at least a couple hours before I want him to go to bed.....sometimes it will make them hyper before they settle down to sleep.

I agree with the 1st person who said Melatonin. My niece gives it to her daughter who is 3 and SWEARS by it. I haven't given it to Z yet because he's been sick and so he's been sleeping more. Basically the Melatonin helps them to get their days and nights straightened out.

Good luck. I hope you get some GOOD sleep soon!

Oh gosh, I feel your pain. I have always found that the better they sleep in the day the better they sleep at night. But maybe it's just me.
