Sex Education....Kelly style

So, my oldest, Cameron is 10 1/2, and has NO idea where babies come from.  She just found out when Jackson was born 2 1/2 years ago that boys have a penis.  I still can't decide on what to call their "bottom"....sue-sue, who-ha, vulva, etc....yes, she is 10 1/2 YEARS OLD!!!  Not the most comfortable subject for me....and I was a Biology major!!!

So in preparation for "THE TALK" I've purchased some books...."American Girl guide to your body" and another about your body book.  These books really just focus on puberty and what changes to expect.  So no easy out for me....I have no recollection of having "THE TALK" with my Mother...I really think I found out about S-E-X- when I was 15!!  (Yes, that means I was more naive than my daughter!!)

Cameron's school was showing a "Growing up" video; I had to sign a permission slip and everything....so I thought, maybe I'll get an opening for the topic....We reviewed puberty and the changes, etc.  and the Wimpy one (aka me) sent her on her way.  I anxiously awaited the end of the day to see if my job was done for me what she learned about....no dice!  Just....Puberty......SO not saved here!!!

One high point and something I may use for a few more years days/weeks is Cameron reported that the girls in the class were all giggling when they heard the word "penis"...so I said to her, "Why is that so funny?  Jackson has a penis and it's no big deal, right?!"  To which she immediately agreed....so the new plan is to let her think that all men have baby penises....nothing interesting there....no big deal....push the sex talk back; my daughter has 0 interest in boys until she is 18.....

You think it will work?  Have you had "The Talk"?  Any Advice?

Mmmmm. I am not looking forward to this talk at all.
My daughter (9) now directs me to change the radio station when there are ads about premature ejaculation on. Not sure what she makes of them... I just change the station when she asks.

Thanks to watching Marley & Me this weekend, Andrew asked us where babies come from. We told him to just watch the movie. LOL Procrastination...it works for us!

Oh the sex talk not looking forward to this thank goodness, I have a few more years!

Please, please call the parts by the anatomy name and nothing else.

Recently I heard the two boys of my friend called their penis, "chicken nugget". I thought, wow, so creative! LOL.

I think comparing all penises with her brother's little baby penis is a good way to keep her uninterested for a while. I'd go that route.

hahaha. I have no advice, but that's funny.

I have no advice... our girls are 2 & 7 & I'm hoping not to have THE talk for many, many years yet!

Oh have we ever had the talk. Several times. They want to hear it again and again. Like a comforting bed time story. We are in soooo much trouble! (Especially since Madalyn's reaction to the whole thing is "so...how does that FEEL?!")

I have not had "the talk" yet with my girls. They do know that boys have penises and girls have vaginas... but that's as far as we've gotten! So I'm no help...

I dreaded "The Talk," but it's really not as bad as you think it's gonna be. Just be honest, straightforward, and open to her questions. Time, and age, will take care of the rest. And make sure you're still open, honest and available for her later on down the road, when she might ask more serious questions!

Send her over to her aunt T.T. I'll take care of it for you... I am always getting updates on "HAIR DOWN THERE" from Dane... usually at dinner... mmmm nice...

I told him peach fuzz dosen't count.

& we NEVER call it by the proper name... we have DING DONGS for the boys & tuttilies for the girls...

Dane had a whole section on puberty/sex at school & I knew NOTHING about it until he come home & told me... (I was a little irritated..but welcome to Europe)

Its "natural" they say...

My girls still call their vaginas their "tushies". I always call it a vagina. My husband sometimes cringes...

Thankfully we're no where near the birds and the bees talk..

BUT - they really want to know how the baby got in my tummy - and more importantly, how it's getting out!

Did you happen to see the Oprah episode recently about all this? It was very eye-opening to me. I'm so not envious of your position.

My 3 yr old has just recently become obsessed with my breasts and wanting to know all about them. I'm sure this is just a precursor of things to come...much sooner than I'm ready. LOL!
