Preaching to the Choir

Okay, I need to vent...I am a disorganized mess (is that redundant?)...First of all I lost a whole weekend due to whatever nasty summer bug I caught...head cold, achy, and very fatigued. Not that I get usually get a lot accomplished on the weekends besides catching up on all the sleep I lose staying up until 1am in the morning, but that's not the point, I lost a weekend.

So I drag my fat ass to work (fat ass because the scrubs that were feeling a little looser last week are feeling a little snug this week - why couldn't I have had a stomach bug that made me lose my appetite?). I have a super busy day with patients, patients, patients and more patients. I try to avoid having too much contact because all of them are immunocompromised in one way or the other; I even thought about wearing a mask, but then I thought that was a little too dramatic. On top of the plethora of patients, I had a monitor in today (one of the nice ones), but still more work...

I get home start dinner (hubby usually starts the dinner, but I told him I would cook when I got home 'cause he's never made the beef stroganoff...(don't know why I am so protective, it's not like it's a complicated recipe - beef, soup, sour cream, noodles!!!). So I drag myself home and start browning the meat when my middle child, Emmy, comes in and tells me it's parent night tonight at her school. I think I said, "You've got to be f--king kidding me?!" But I hope not because she is 6...so let's just pretend I said, "Oh my, I completely forgot!" (Did I mention I still feel like I've been run over by a Mac truck?!) Well sure enough, she's right; it's parent's night tonight starting in ....oh 10 minutes...lovely! So I turn over the cooking duties to hubby who by the way is a walking zombie as he was called out to a crime scene at 2:30 am...Off to school I went in the middle of a thunder storm.

So I make my way to the classroom in the aforementioned thunderstorm and I am made to wait OUTSIDE for the requisite 5 minutes before the start of the fun-filled evening. Hello?! lightning was still dangerous last time I checked and we are living in the lighting capital of the world!!

We enter the classroom and I have to sit for the next 60 minutes in a kid sized chair that is 10 inches from the ground...did I mention that I think my illness was rheumatic fever as my knees are both aching and I am hobbling around? As the teacher speaks more and more about what a 1st grader is supposed to know and accomplish, my anxiety level grows and grows. And I am going to find the time to do this when?! It already took me 1 week to fill out all the back-to-school paperwork....URGHHHH!

Best news of all?! I go back on Thursday for 5th grade parent's night...Can someone call me in a prescription for Xanax?

That's all for now, Whiney McWhineybutt signing off...

What a day! And I have complete sympathy for you and the chairs. At Madalyn's school, their tables have attached stools. That are a few inches off the ground and less than a foot across. Which might hold one butt cheek.

And I will not even tell you about what happened to my person after sitting on one of those for three hours last Christmas when helping out at the holiday shop...

Ugh! Poor you! If it makes you feel any better we had "meet the teacher night" tonight and they handed me ANOTHER list of crap I have to buy...on top of the one we spent $75 filling! Bah! School! Bah!

When did grade school get so complicated for parents? I swear all my parents did was buy me a new back pack every couple of years and send me on my way. I'm not looking forward to all of that.

Oh I felt that way last week. I am finally in the "draining" stage. And can I say back to school night sucks. I always call the teacher and ask to meat her after school one day instead. that way I know she knows who I am and I don't get lost in the crowd.

I hope tomarrow is better.

I am so sorry that you had a terrible day. I hope that you have a better one tomorrow but look this made an awesome post.

Just wondering, are you an RN too?

I just received the extensive parent packet to fill out. Meet the teacher night is next week or so, I think. All this back to school stuff is a lot of work!

I hope you feel better soon. I feel for ya. I have some Xanax but I'm not sharing!!!

You poor thing! It's hard enough sitting through those school orientations--but doing it sick! Ugh! I feel like I've been filling out school paperwork forever--it's like the pile never gets smaller!!

You guys are all so awesome...who needs Xanax when I got the support of my bloggy friends?! Truly, I'm not usually this much of a whiner...just a snowball effect...I did try to throw some humor in there to lighten it up...

Jen, No, I'm not an RN, I just play one on t.v. :) Actually my official title is "clinical research coordinator"...may be one day I'll blog about what I do...which is see patients, do paperwork, process blood and urine...sounds like such a good time, but I'm sure you see worse (sputum anyone?!)

Oh, fun times. Sounds just like a day in my life.

Sounds like fun! (NOT) I can't wait for parents night at my sons school. They spent an hour and a half last week explaining how the school works at orientation day. Seriously, it's all in the parent handbook anyway and how complicated can it be - it's primary school!

I hope you have a better day today and are feeling better as well!

Oh girl! I so feel your pain... I am so determined for the teacher this year to NOT think we are bad parents... but it might be too late for that.. it took me a week to get Dane's books covered. I have no idea when we have back to school night... probably yesterday..

Hello???!!??
Scrubs?
Crime scene?
Is this a movie/TV show?
I'm sorry - life (ie. work) just sounds too exciting on that end!!

PS: Bummer about the bad day.

Seriously, ugh! I am so sorry that you a horribly crazy day yesterday. I hope you will get to feeling better soon! Oh, I love the Whiney McWhineyButt name.

I would be whining too. I'm the sorry parent who is skipping parent orientation night next week because I simply can't be bothered. I mean, this is my second year at this school. What could they possibly want to tell me that I haven't already heard about? I'm not going to find out. LOL!

My name is Wendy Angus and i would like to show you my personal experience with Xanax.

I am 45 years old. Have been on Xanax for 2 years now. In working with a wonderful doctor and therapist, I have learned Meniere's Disease is an anxiety=provoked condition, and is the worst thing I have ever suffered in my life. To manage this, I take a low dose of Wellbutrin everyday and have a 1mg Rx for Xanax, which I am supposed to take 3x-a-day, but to be honest, I usually only take about 3-1mg a week, so only taking it when I honestly feel "too anxious". I also take Meclizine for the Meniere's attacks and those are only as needed as well. I feel the Xanax is better to have around than not, for my personal conditions. It took me a long time to balance out my meds, and taking too much xanax feels as horrible as the withdrawl can be, as I've experienced both. Now, after much time in getting to know what my body needs and how I am feeling (like with anxiety), and removing the 'stigma' of having to take a drug to manage my conditions is now over, taking just a few pills a week seems to work beautifully.

I have experienced some of these side effects -
It makes me very thirsty (dry mouth) but seems to work well in combination with other drugs for my conditions with no ill effects.

I hope this information will be useful to others,
Wendy Angus
